Most organizations will find the service set up during installation to be the best solution for InterAction Broadcast Email. However, if necessary, you can configure the program using command line parameters and settings in the INTRACTN.INI file.
You can configure the following options for InterAction Broadcast Email:
- Default Options for the InterAction Broadcast Email dialog box. Normally, the program remembers the last settings you used. However, you can set up the service to always default a certain way - for instance, you can set it up to always use the Business email address. For information, see Set the Default Options for the InterAction Broadcast Email Dialog Box.
- Auto-run mode. You can set up the service to run without displaying the dialog box. The service can either use the same email address options (Business, Home, etc.), or it can use the currently selected email address. For more information, see Configuring InterAction Broadcast Email to Bypass the Dialog Box.
Using Command Line Parameters
To configure InterAction Broadcast Email options, you add command line parameters to the InterAction Broadcast Email service. After launching the broadcast email application, InterAction will pass along the specified arguments.
Enter command line parameters in the Command Line Parameters field of the New/Edit Service dialog box. For information about creating and editing services, see "Customizing the InterAction Windows Client" on page 1.
All command line parameters for InterAction Broadcast Email begin with a slash (/). Always separate multiple parameters with spaces.

Set the Default Options for the InterAction Broadcast Email Dialog Box
When using InterAction Broadcast Email in normal mode, these options control the default settings in the dialog box. If you have set the /auto command line parameter so InterAction Broadcast Email is in auto mode, these settings are more important since the user cannot change the options in the dialog box.
Using either InterAction or InterAction Administrator, edit the service you want to change.
Enter one or more of the following parameters in the Command Line Parameters field, then choose OK.

Configuring InterAction Broadcast Email to Bypass the Dialog Box
Normally, InterAction Broadcast Email displays a dialog box to allow you to select the email options before creating a new message.
A service configured to run in “auto mode” creates the message without displaying the dialog box. When you use this type of service, InterAction Broadcast Email uses the dialog box defaults specified in the other command line parameters.
This is useful if you frequently send a message to the same email address (Business, Home, etc.) for a group of contacts. For example, you might send a monthly electronic newsletter to the Business email address of everyone in the “Newsletter” folder. You can set up a service that will automatically address the message to the Business address of all contacts in the current folder without ever displaying the dialog box.
Configure InterAction Broadcast Email to Bypass the Dialog Box
- Using either InterAction or InterAction Administrator, edit the service you want to change.
-
Enter the following parameter in the Command Line Parameters field:
/Auto
This parameter tells InterAction Broadcast Email to run without displaying the dialog box.
-
Also in the Command Line Parameters field, enter the command line parameters for each of the dialog box options the service should use. This is important, since the user will not be able to change these options.
For example, the following set of parameters configures the service to always send the message to either the marked contacts (if any are marked), or all contacts in the folder (if none are marked). When sending to all contacts in the folder, it always skips the company contacts. It always sends the message to the Business email addresses, and skips any contacts that don't have email addresses:
/Tagged=%TAG_LIST_COUNT% /All /SkipCo=Yes /Eaddr=BUS /NoAddr=SKIP /Auto
- Choose OK, then choose OK again to close the Edit Service dialog box. Choose Close to close the Manage Services dialog box.
Using INI Settings
All INI settings for InterAction Broadcast Email are under the [IABroadcastEmail] section in the INTRACTN.INI file stored on each user’s workstation.
You can change the settings in the following table to configure InterAction Broadcast Email. All other settings within the [IABroadcastEmail] section are set by the application or installation and should not be changed.
INI Settings
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| SendToSender= |
Specifies whether InterAction Broadcast Email should copy your email address into the To field of a message when addressing an email using the Bcc option. Set to 0 to leave the To field blank. You will need to manually enter an email address in the To field. If this is not set, InterAction Broadcast Email will copy your email address into the To field by default. |
| AlternativeAddressing= |
Specifies whether or not Broadcast Email should work with email addresses containing spaces and other unusual characters. Set to 0 to turn off alternative addressing. In this case, Broadcast Email will not handle addresses with spaces. This is typically much faster, and therefore best for most email systems. Set to 1 if your email system allows addresses containing spaces and other unusual characters. |
