- Locate the contacts you want to export. Do any of the following:
- Open the folder to export
- Perform a search to find the contacts to export
- Mark the contacts to export
- Choose Folder > Export to open the Export Contacts dialog box.

Enter the File Name for the file you want to contain the exported contacts.
You can choose the lookup button to browse for the file or type in the full path and file name.

If desired, change the File Format.
To change the regional settings for your export (if you need to change the date and numeric formats to a different country’s settings), choose the Options button to specify output options for the type of file selected. For more information, see Exporting International Data to a CSV File.

Select the Export Instructions you want to use from the list.
In the Show drop-down list, choose My Export Instructions to display personal export instructions, or choose Firm Export Instructions to display firm export instructions.
- To review or edit the export instructions, choose Edit and refer to Editing Export Instructions.
- Choose OK and InterAction exports the contacts to the specified file.
- At “Do you want to open the export data file?” choose Yes to open the file, or choose No to continue working without opening the file.
Exporting International Data to a CSV File
When exporting data that includes international characters to a CSV file, you must export the file using UTF-8 encoding so the characters output correctly. For example, if you are exporting contacts from InterAction to a CSV file, and some of the data contains French and Japanese characters, you must choose UTF-8 in the Advanced Export Options dialog box before you export.
If you choose to export to MDB, XML, or XLS files, these formats automatically handle foreign characters and no special steps are required.
After you export the data from InterAction, you must open the export file from within Excel to run the Text Import Wizard. Follow the steps below.
Export International Data to a CSV File
- Locate the contacts you want to export. Do any of the following:
- Open the folder to export
- Perform a search to find the contacts to export
- Mark the contacts to export
- Choose Folder > Export to open the Export Contacts dialog box.
- Enter the File Name for the file you want to contain the exported contacts.

In the File Format drop-down list, choose CSV File or CSV File - MS Access Compatible.

Choose Options.
The Advanced Export Options dialog box displays.
- In the Export file as drop-down list, choose Unicode (UTF-8).
- Choose OK.

Select the Export Instructions to use from the list.
In the Show drop-down list, choose My Export Instructions to display personal export instructions, or choose Firm Export Instructions to display organization export instructions.
- Choose OK and InterAction exports the contacts to the CSV file.

At “Do you want to open the export data file?” choose No.
It is important to choose No when prompted to open the export file then open it from within Microsoft® Excel®. Otherwise the Text Import Wizard does not appear.
- Open Excel.

From within Excel, open the export file.
The Text Import Wizard displays.

On the first screen of the Text Import Wizard:
- Choose Delimited as the Original data type
- Choose Unicode (UTF-8) in the File origin drop-down list
- Choose Next twice to move to step 2 of the Text Import Wizard.

Choose the Comma check box in the Delimiters area of the screen.
- Choose Next twice to move to step 3 of the Text Import Wizard.

Choose General in the Column data format field.
- Choose Finish.
