The Multi-Address Duplicate Merge feature lets you search a specified group of people or companies, then merge all of the duplicate address information for each contact at once.
The scenarios as to why you must merge rather than delete the duplicates, as well as the rules behind what happens are the same as the Merge Addresses and Merge Phones features. See Merging Contact Information - Phones, Addresses, and Electronic Addresses for more information.
In order to use this feature, you must have data quality permissions.

Finding Multiple Duplicate Addresses
Duplicate address matching is performed on a specific set of contacts, not the entire database. The search is based on what is in the user’s current view. For example:
- If you have a folder, search results, or find results window open, the duplicate address matching is performed on all contacts in the folder or results window.
- If the folder is filtered to only show a subset of contacts, then the matching is performed on the subset.
- If you have marked contacts in the main view, then the matching will only be performed on the marked contacts.
The Multi-Address Duplicate Merge option is not accessible from the Contact Details View window.
Merging Multiple Duplicate Addresses
Perform the following steps:
-
Determine the contacts that you wish to search against by accessing a folder, performing a search, or selecting specific contacts.
-
Choose Data Quality > Multi-Address Duplicate Merge.
-
Select the first contact in the list and identify the address to keep, then click Merge. The address that was not selected is deleted, and any contacts referencing that address will now reference the address that remains.
Note: You can mark multiple contacts on the Multi-Address Duplicate Merge dialog box, and merge all of the address information at once.
-
Repeat with the next group of contacts.
Available Options for Modifying Search Results
InterAction provides additional options that allow you to modify the information found during your search.
Address Matching
To adjust the sensitivity of the duplicate address search, select the Modify Address Matching link on the Multi-Address Duplicate Merge dialog. This displays the Address Matching dialog which allows you to select the fields to use when performing a duplicate address search.
Out of the box, Street, City, State/Province, and Zip/Postal Code are all selected. Clearing a check box allows you to potentially find more addresses which could be duplicates. For a more specific search, select Include secondary address information such as suite and apartment number.
Select the Save these as my defaults check box to use the current settings for subsequent searches.
Groups
If you know that the information returned by InterAction is grouped incorrectly, you have a number of options:
- Add to Group - This adds the selected address in the Addresses that are not duplicates grid to the selected group in the Choose the address to keep in each group grid. Use this to indicate that an address that InterAction determined was unique is actually a duplicate.
- Remove - This moves the currently selected address from the Choose the address to keep in each group grid to the Addresses that are not duplicates grid. Use this to indicate that an address that InterAction determined was a duplicate is actually unique.
-
Move Address... - The Move Address options are accessed by right-clicking on an address in the Choose the address to keep in each group grid. Selecting one of these options moves the currently selected address to the group directly above or below it.
You can also use CTRL-Up arrow and CTRL-Down arrow to move an address.
- New Group - This creates a new group within the Choose the address to keep in each group grid. The currently selected address is automatically added to the new group. Use this to group duplicate addresses not currently grouped by InterAction.
Edit Address
This button allows you to update information for the selected address. You can also access the Edit Address dialog by double-clicking on the applicable address.
If the address is shared by contacts other than the one selected in this dialog, you are prompted as to whether the change applies globally, or to only the selected contact.
Address Shared By
If you are reviewing company addresses, you can right-click on an address in the Choose the address to keep in each group grid and select Address shared by. If there are contacts that are sharing this company address, InterAction displays the Shared Company Address dialog.
This dialog allows you to view the person contacts that are currently sharing this company address. You can also edit the additional line field in the contact’s address to remove a person’s specific information (suite, floor, mail stop) from the company address, but keep it on the person contact address.
